Designed: telephone line toile

It’s no secret that I love the look of telephone lines–they make repeated guest appearances in my designs. I created this toile pattern in homage to that life-long love. It was surprisingly challenging to make the pattern flow how I wanted it to, with a realistic drape to each of the lines and a perspective that worked both in the individual connections as well as across the pattern as a whole. I sprinkled a few birds on wires throughout it because their presence on lines is part of the reason for my love of them,

The repeat is rather small in this image, but I am pretty satisfied that, while easy to find, it doesn’t jump out and stripe too much. I used it on a very brief run of organic cotton scarves I sold at shows some years ago, as well as in the background of the 2010 happify calendar for July.
